How To Reduce Ribbon Size In Outlook (Fix Zoomed-In Toolbar)
The Outlook ribbon or toolbar is a core element of the Outlook interface that can sometimes become magnified, making it difficult to work with. This article shows how you can restore the ribbon to its original size.

Two important things to know

  • The ribbon size can be affected by multiple factors including Outlook's built-in zoom function, display settings, and Touch Mode settings.
  • There is a difference between the ribbon/toolbar being zoomed in versus email content being zoomed in. These solutions focus on fixing the ribbon size.

Step 1: Disable Touch Mode

  • Go to the upper-left corner of Outlook and locate the Touch/Mouse Mode icon (shown as a hand covering a ring)
  • Click on the icon and select Mouse to switch from Touch Mode to Mouse Mode
  • This will reduce the spacing between buttons on the ribbon and restore a more compact view

Step 2: Try the Calendar Fix
If the Touch Mode solution doesn't work, you can try the calendar fix method:

  • Right-click the calendar icon in Outlook (located either in the upper-left or lower-left corner depending on your Outlook version)
  • Select Open in New Window

  • Close the primary Outlook window while keeping the calendar window open
  • In the calendar window, right-click the envelope icon (mail) above the calendar icon
  • Select Open In New Window
  • Your ribbon size should now be restored to normal

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If these methods don't work, check your Windows display settings
  • Ensure Outlook is fully updated to the latest version
  • Try restarting Outlook after making these changes
